Having worked in eating disorder treatment for many years, I have the knowledge and experience to help you and/or your loved one from many angles. Whether you are new to recovery or have been through treatment many times, I can help determine the appropriate level of care needed and uncover the underlying reasons for a disordered relationship with food, weight and/or exercise. I use evidenced based practices such as DBT and CBT combined with a relational approach to cease unhealthy behaviors, manage emotional responses, and achieve a sense of equilibrium. I take a holistic team approach by providing necessary referrals that specialize in ED (Dietitian, PCP Psychiatrist) as well as support groups and experiential therapy (food outings, exposures, etc.). I treat Body Dysmorphia, Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia, Binge Eating Disorder, Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID), Eating Disorder NOS, Exercise Bulimia, as well as disordered eating and beliefs
Many of my clients come to me struggling with identity related issues. This could be anything from sexuality, religion, race and culture to an overall lack in sense of self. Having a dedicated space and time to explore and process these ideas, in and of itself, can be extremely healing. However, I also support these clients by providing tools to help clarify and strengthen their sense of self as well as their beliefs, desires, and preferences in the world. People of any race, gender, and orientation are welcome in my office, even if they don’t fit in the mainstream and even if those definitions are still developing/evolving.
When it comes to working with families, I take a systems approach rather than focusing on any one individual (even if there is an “identified patient). I believe that the only way for change to be maintained in a system is for everyone to be aware of their role and to take responsibility for their part in that change. In family therapy we will work on addressing negative family patterns of communication, encouraging mindfulness and empathic responses, and re-balancing developing issues for potential growth throughout the entire family. Whether you are struggling with communication, separation/divorce, blending two families, parenting, or a life event/transition, I utilize strengths, values-based decision making, mindfulness and self-compassion to lower reactivity and encourage self reflection and awareness.
